Residents are noticing these posted high up around the Island and HIRA has been told that these may be monitoring holiday traffic and the results likely used to support the new (being re-written) Local Plan Traffic Assessment. HIRA's Committee think that residents should be informed by those who set up such counters as to their location and purpose, given their function in supporting any Traffic Assessment. Because these might be placed high up, take great care to record their presence either when you're not driving or with the help of a passenger. After a few weeks please send through your record plus your own comments for us to pass on to the Council. It might also be helpful if you note any holiday traffic-heavy locations where they are not in evidence which we can also pass on to the Council.
