Should Hayling have a Parish Council? Many urban Councils contain Parish Councils of which Hampshire has many and newer ones nationally prove successful.
This is a major and complex decision, which HIRA's committee does not take lightly. Over decades, HIRA's varying committees examined the merits of having a Parish Council for Hayling without reaching a unanimous verdict.
HIRA's current committee has just taken advice from an expert concerning the complex details of what is involved in the establishment and running of a Parish or Town Council, with insight into what that could mean for Hayling.
If the current petition reaches the required percentage of votes to initiate the democratic process, we will clearly need to run properly informed public meetings to foster widespread understanding of all that is involved.
